Loft Insulation Grant

Obtaining Loft Insulation Grants covers the cost of installing professional Loft Insulation. The grant is 100% free and does not need repayment if you receive a qualifying benefit.

A Green Deal and Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) grant are available through the Government Energy suppliers. Such as British Gas Npower E-ON needs the Government to pay for Insulation in residential properties.

Energy bills continue to rise, and Loft Insulation can reduce your heating bills by up to £150 per year. By preventing up to 25 percent of your home’s heat from escaping through the roof.

loft insulation

What is loft insulation?

The mineral wool insulation in current grant schemes makes from glass fiber. The loft floor rolled out with it between and then across the joists. A blanket keeps your home warm by trapping rising heat.

It also prevents heat from entering your home via the roof in the Summer. Which keeps your home cooler.

It’s recommended to install it 11 inches deep or 270 millimeters deep for loft insulation. You will enjoy having more Insulation installed in your loft if it had not toppled up in the past 15 years.

Furthermore, Loft Insulation Grants cover installing a walk-on board. If the distance between the water tank and the hatch exceeds one meter (3 feet).

Loft Insulation

Do I need to insulate my loft?

Loft Insulation can still benefit approximately 42% of UK households with traditional lofts.

You must have less than 100mm (4 inches) of insulation installed. On your property qualify for free loft insulation. To ensure proper insulation installation. The Insulation would top up to a depth of 270mm/11 inches.

Another important factor to consider is that it would install on the loft floor. Meaning there must be no stored items or boarded-out areas. A loft must be accessible and have enough headroom for installers to work.

The installation of loft insulation will not be possible if you have the following:

  • The amount of Insulation installed already is too high. Most homes with 100mm (4 inches) or less should qualify.
  • Access is not possible, or the hatch needs to be bigger. The hatch size should be 400mm/16 inches square.
  • The roof peak is within 1.2 m of the joists, so there are only about 4 feet of headroom.
  • The number of stored items is large, and you are not prepared to remove them
  • The loft is board, and you cannot lift the boards. Boarding allows up to 20%.
  • There is any dampness present. Any damp problems must be cured and dried before applying.
  • You would like a sloping roof (under the tiles), a flat roof, or under-floor Insulation.
